Online Associate’s Degree Programs at Seminole State College

Seminole State College offers online associate’s degree programs that include just two years of work. The first is an Associate of Arts (AA) that meets the general education requirements that bachelor’s degree students usually take during their first two years of classes. Many students enroll in this program when they know that they will transfer later but haven’t yet picked a major. It includes two English, three humanities and one communications course. Students can choose from Medieval Humanities, The World of Dickens, Asian Humanities, Introduction to Philosophy and Women, Gender and Culture. Several of these courses are available for honors students too.
The college offers Associate of Science (AS) programs in nine fields too, all of which are in the business area. In the administrative office management program, students learn how to work as virtual and traditional students and the basics of running an office. Majors take Introduction to Business, Office Accounting, Computer Applications, Administrative Office Management, Administrative Office Procedures, and Records Management and Legal Implications. The courses that business administration majors take include Microsoft Excel, Introduction to Management, Business Communications, and Marketing. Majors must also pick from specializations in human resource management, management, insurance and risk management, logistics, general business, or marketing and sales. Another concentration is available for transfer students called the AS to BS track.
Through the college’s entrepreneurship and business program, students can become business leaders and start companies of their own. It includes required business classes and electives such as Global Management, Advertising and Sales Promotion, Internet Research for Business and Human Resources Compensation and Benefits Administration. The college encourages majors to take Introduction to Human Resources Management Law and Regulations too. This class looks at the laws that managers must follow when they recruit new talent and both hire and train workers.
Seminole State offers one of the only online associate’s programs in social media and marketing in the country. Students learn the fundamentals of online advertising and marketing campaigns that small and large companies use. Those who apply by the middle of the summer and complete a FAFSA can get scholarships and other types of financial aid. This program includes Entrepreneurial Marketing and Professional Selling, Introduction to Business, Small Business Management and Opportunity Analysis and Franchising. Students can get credit for courses taken in business, accounting, economics, finance and management, all of which will count as their electives. Other majors for online AS students include health information technology, supply chain management, and network systems technology.
About Seminole State College
Officially called Seminole State College of Florida, this large college also uses the names of Seminole State and Seminole State College. Founded in 1965 by the State of Florida as Seminole Junior College, it opened in central Florida with one campus that was close to both I-4 and US 17-92. Classes began in 1966 and charged students only $5 per credit hour. Students could study art, journalism, business, Spanish and a few other subjects. As enrollment increased through the 1960s and 1970s, the college became Seminole Community College and added more buildings to its main campus. Seminole State has campuses in Sanford/Lake Mary, Oviedo, Altamonte Springs and Heathrow, which is the Center for Economic Development at Heathrow. Nearly 30 of the college’s degree programs are available online, including nine associate’s degrees and five bachelor’s degree programs.
Seminole State College Accreditation Details
The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) awarded full accreditation to Seminole State, which is why the college’s students can use the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and get help paying for school. This is also the accreditation that lets students take their degrees and credits with them when they transfer from the college. Seminole State also has accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CARC), American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). Students can check the accreditation status of the college before they apply.
Seminole State College Application Requirements
Seminole State accepts students who finished high school, those who attended college before and students who only have a GED. Those with no college credits will need to submit an ACT score that is no more than two years old or a valid SAT score. The college will also accept those scores from other entrance exams. It will waive this requirement of students who entered a Florida public high school in ninth grade and either earned a diploma or enlisted in the military. This waiver only applies to students who entered high school in 2003 or later.
The Seminole State application asks for a phone number and email address. Students must use valid numbers and addresses because the college will contact them through email and over the phone before they can enroll in classes. They can download the application and send it to any of the Seminole State campuses or visit one of those campuses and complete the application in person. Those who need more help can meet an admissions or financial aid counselor in person or speak with them over the phone.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Affordable rates are just one reason why students choose to attend Seminole State. They pay an average of $3,131 each year with another $1,000 spent on their textbooks and other supplies. Florida residents pay around $20 in fees and $79.78 in tuition, which brings their costs to $104.38 per credit hour. Nonresidents pay a separate fee, which brings their totals to $381.87 per credit hour. Students in one of the college’s vocational programs will pay $83.70 per credit hour as a resident and $335.40 as a nonresident.
Though the college offers low rates, it also has financial aid packages for incoming and current students. Students can log into their online accounts and enroll in a payment plan. They can then make convenient payments each month in the upcoming term. The Pell grant and a state government grant goes to students who use the FAFSA to demonstrate their financial need. They may qualify for work-study and scholarships too. The Florida Bright Future Scholarship covers the cost of taking up to 45 credits in a year. Seminole State College allows students to use more than one type of financial aid in its online associate’s degree programs.
