Online Associate’s Degrees Offered at Keiser University

Keiser University offers 16 online associate’s degree programs for students of all ages. Two of these programs include Spanish language classes and are designed for bilingual students. The Associate of Science (AS) in General Studies program gives students the option of taking electives and courses that interest them as they also take general education courses that will transfer to other schools. Spanish speakers can also enroll in the As in Medical Administrative Billing and Coding program. It includes courses on insurance billing and coding, medical terminology and office administration.
Most of the online programs offered by the university prepare students to work in some of the top industries in Florida. The paralegal studies program includes 24 credits of legal courses such as Criminal Law, Torts Law, Family Law, Real Property, Wills, Trusts and Estates and Legal Research and Writing I. Legal Research and Writing II and other electives are available for students too. In the criminal justice program, students can graduate and meet some of the requirements for working with law enforcement agencies across Florida. This program includes Introduction to Law Enforcement, Criminology, Criminal Investigations and Writing and Communications for CJ Professionals.
Also available are several business and management programs, including one in golf management. Designed for students who want to manage public courses and private clubs, it includes internship options that let students work for local facilities. The courses in this program include Golf Club Fitting and Repair, Traditions of Golf: History and Culture, Golf Swing Fundamentals and Golf Course Design and Maintenance.
In the business administration program, students take a total of 60 credits of classes, half of which will come from business administration courses. Human Resource Management, Financial Management, Accounting Principles I and II and Principles of Management are all required of students in the program. Keiser University can prepare students for working in other areas through online associate’s degree programs in medical assisting science, homeland security, health services administration, fire science, accounting, and applied engineering.
About Keiser University
Keiser University is a private university in Florida that offers classes online and on campuses across the state. Established in 1977 as the Keiser School, it started as a career college. Arthur and Evelyn Keiser, his mother, worked together to fund a school that offered programs specifically designed to prepare students for working in the growing industries of the Sunshine State. It became the Keiser Institute of Technology in 1982 after adding new computer science and technology programs. Known as Keiser College from 1986 to 2006, it only became Keiser University after gaining regional accreditation and developing stronger degree programs.
Though Keiser was a for-profit for many years, it became a nonprofit university in 2010 after Everglades College Inc. acquired the system. Community College Week ranks Keiser on a national level in several categories, including the best health care programs, top computer and information technology programs, and best nursing programs. All of those programs are at the associate’s level. The university has a flagship campus in West Palm Beach, which is also home to the College of Golf. Other campuses are in major cities that include Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Port St. Lucie, Daytona Beach and Jacksonville.
Keiser University Accreditation Details
The online programs offered at Keiser University have regional accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Those programs also have accreditation from the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC) because they offer career training for students. Other accreditation held by Keiser comes from the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES), American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) among other professional organizations.
Keiser University Application Requirements
Before applying to a degree program, Keiser encourages students to learn more about the program and to speak to an admissions advisor. They will need to prove that they either completed a GED or a high school program. Students have the option of contacting an admissions counselor over the phone or through email, though students who live in Florida can also visit a nearby campus and talk with a counselor in person. There are open house events scheduled nearly every semester that let students talk with both counselors and professors too. Students can visit the campus outside of those events also.
During the appointment with a counselor, the student will have the chance to learn about the degree requirements of a program and whether they would benefit from an online program. The Keiser application asks students to create a new account and log on when they’re ready to apply. It takes 30 minutes or less to fill out the application, but students will also use their accounts to apply for financial aid and to make sure that they meet the requirements for obtaining aid. Students can also log in to view the university’s catalog and register for classes before the semester starts.
Tuition and Financial Aid
To help students determine their costs for the year, Keiser offers a net price calculator. It asks students a series of questions about what they want to study, where they will take classes and how they live. The calculator also asks general information that it uses to determine the financial aid available for that student. The average cost of attendance at the university is $120,208 per year. This includes the university’s fees but does not include the books or other supplies they might need.
Keiser University can use the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and get financial aid. Prospective students can also talk to the Office of Financial Services if they have any questions about the form or the requirements for getting financial aid. The Federal Pell Grant and the Florida Student Assistance Grant are two of the grants available for undergrads. They can qualify for a direct loan, which the federal government offers too. This loan allows students to borrow a maximum of $3,500 in their first years, $4,500 in their second years and $5,500 in their final years. Students enrolling in any of the online associate’s degree programs at Keiser University can qualify for some scholarships too.
