Community Care College is a small school that offers programs for students who want to go to work in different fields quickly without spending a lot of time in school. One of the college’s more popular online programs is one that awards graduates an Associate of Occupational Science Business and Industry Management. Students who already have their diplomas can complete this program in only 10 months, though it will take all other students 18.5 months to finish their degrees. Students learn about employment laws, accounting practices and principles, marketing methods and management techniques.
All the online programs offered by the college are suitable for students who need to take care of their families and those who work part-time or full-time. Students can use Skype and other apps to chat with their professors online, but they’ll also use online discussion boards and email to communicate with their professors and peers. The college allows students to take both online and offline courses. Those who live close to the Tulsa campus can even stop by and use resources such as the computer lab and free wireless internet.
In the health care administration program, students take classes that teach them the skills needed to run a medical office and interact with medical professionals. Those classes include Medical Terminology, Medical-Legal Compliance, Medical Records Administration and Health Care Management. Some of the skills that students learn include how to bill patients through electronic means, the best ways to handle medical records and the laws that all medical professionals must follow.
A similar program is available in medical billing and coding, which prepares students for working in medical offices and insurance companies. They learn how to use the codes that doctors note on records and files to bill patients and their insurers. Students learn how to read patients’ charts and treatment records, process the information given to them and handle payment requests. In the college’s paralegal studies program, students learn how to work with both lawyers and their clients, manage legal offices and do legal research. Other online programs available from Community Care College include those in veterinary assisting, fitness and health training and early childhood education.
About Community Care College
Community Care College is a private college in Oklahoma known as a career college because it offers career training programs for students. Founded in 1995 by one woman, the college opened as Dental Directions: The School of Dental Assisting. Twelve students signed up for classes and graduated that same year after going through the training necessary to work as dental assistants. Near the end of the 1990s, the popularity and success of the school led to it adding new programs and becoming Community Care College. After buying a building from a local business, the school moved to a new location and began offering even more programs.
Also called CCC, the college has a close connection to several other schools. Teresa Knox, who founded the dental assisting campus, also established Clary Sage College in Tulsa, which offers degree programs in cosmetology and other fields. The Oklahoma Technical College is another related campus that offers programs in automotive technology. CCC now offers 46 degree, diploma and certificate programs to several hundred students every year.
Community Care College Accreditation Details
CCC has accreditation for most of its degree programs, including those in medical assisting, surgical technology, early childhood education, and massage therapy. The accreditation it holds comes from the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACISC), Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) and Commission on Accreditation of Health Education Programs (CAHEP). Those forms of accreditation also allow the college’s students to use the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if they need financial aid.
Community Care College Application Requirements
Community Care College offers help for students who want to apply but don’t know where to start and for those who completed an application. Students can apply online via a short application that takes just minutes to fill out. It consists of five pages and starts with a biographical section that asks students for their names and addresses. They will also pick how they want the college to contact them. The later sections ask students where they attended high school and if they finished high school. Students can also pick which area they want to study and list whether they have any college credits.
Once the college receives an application, it will assign the student an admissions rep who is responsible for contacting the student and helping him or her enroll. The rep can also talk with the student about the online programs and go over the requirements of each one to help students select a field of study. CCC offers concurrent enrollment programs for juniors and seniors in high school too. Those students must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0, an enrollment application signed by a parent/guardian and a high school principal/guidance counselor and an enrollment form. Before starting classes, high school students will also need to interview with an admissions rep.
Tuition and Financial Aid
The cost of attendance at CCC is the same for all types of students because the college doesn’t have an in-district or a non-resident rate. Students typically pay $17,000 a year to attend college. As CCC is a career college, many of its students are veterans or those currently in the military. Those students can use the Montgomery GI Bill, which bases the amount they get on how long they served and other factors. Military students can use other types of government benefits too. There are special programs that award students funds if they are the spouses or children of veterans or those in the military.
Most students will use the FAFSA with the CCC code, which is available on the college’s website. This form helps students qualify for Pell grants and student loans. Pell grants provide students with $5,000 or more towards their educational costs, while student loans let them borrow funds each year that they are in school. Tribal benefits are also available for Native American students who belong to certain tribes. Community Care College has financial aid counselors who can help students see what aid they qualify for before they enroll in any of the college’s online associate’s degree programs.
