Bethel College is a private Christian liberal arts college nestled in beautiful and serene North Newton, Kansas. The core of its education is based in arts and sciences, so there is a wide array of undergraduate degrees available. The school encourages hard work, so students who attend show moderate to high academic performances. Requirements include a cross-cultural experience and religious studies.
Accredited professional programs are offered, including nursing, athletic training, teacher education, and social work. In all, there are over 43 areas of study. Students can choose from degree programs like art, accounting, business & economics, English, history, pre-law, psychology, and youth ministry.
Students do not have to declare a major and minor right away and can thereby declare themselves as “undecided”. Those who do this must spend the first year working one-on-one with their Liberal Education Adviser (LEA) to determine what route they want to take. In the second semester of the first year, these students must take a one-credit course called Major and Career Exploration. By the end of the second year, all lower-level general education requirements must be met, and students can design their own individualized major if they find themselves drawn to multiple majors. In other words, Bethel gives its students a lot of options to customize their education experiences.
Pre-college students are offered online education with the chance to take general psychology, which is a general education course that all students must take in order to graduate. College consortium courses are available as well. This means that students can enroll online at other KICA and regional colleges and universities.

Bethel College Accreditation Details
The Higher Learning Commission gives Bethel College its accreditation. It was recently designated as being accredited – on notice, which essentially means that some issues have come up but that the college has the opportunity to remedy them. Bethel College is in adherence to the criteria for accreditation, but it is considered to be at risk for not complying with tenets of criteria 4 and 5. The college has been given two years to be in full adherence and, in those two years, must develop and follow plans to rectify everything. The college is still considered to be in good standing with the Higher Learning Commission, and this does not impact the dispersal of financial aid or ability to transfer credits.
Bethel College Application Requirements
Applying to Bethel College is clear-cut and relatively simple. First-time freshmen must have an ACT score of 19 and a minimum GPA of 2.5 in order to be automatically admitted. SAT scores get converted to ACT scores. A high school transcript must be submitted along with SAT or ACT scores. There is a $200 enrollment deposit and Student Life Contract that accepted freshmen must complete. FAFSA forms must be submitted in order to receive financial aid for the coming school year.
Transfer students need to have at least 24 credit hours and a minimum GPA of 2.25. They must submit official transcripts from each college they have attended. Then, if they get accepted, they will have to pay the $200 enrollment fee and sign the Student Life Contract.
Nursing students have to send their official transcripts as well as give a nursing reference form to one employer and one minister/rabbi/youth sponsor, academic adviser, or health professional. These references will be contacted by the department to gain some insight into the student’s character and achievements. A 500-word personal essay also needs to be submitted, detailing the student’s objectives as a future nurse. If a student’s native language is not English, they must submit their TOEFL scores. A GPA of 2.75 is required, and all pre-requisite nursing courses must be passed with a grade of C or better. Five years after starting the program, a student must complete Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology, and Pathophysiology. They must also uphold all of the department’s standards throughout their studies.
International students should submit their official high school records, official records from any colleges previously attended, a one-page motivation letter, and official SAT or TOEFL scores. If the college wants to accept an international student, that student must complete an I-20 form detailing their ability to pay.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Compared to other private liberal arts colleges in the country, Bethel College is about 19 percent less expensive. Tuition costs $30,024, and there is a $200 deposit. On average, students will spend about $700 on books each year, and room and board expenses are $9,670. All students need to have health insurance coverage, and athletes need additional athletic insurance. Fees are similar for international students, although freshmen can choose to stay in Haury Hall for $8,980.
