For example, the Associate of Applied Science in Accounting builds a 67-credit digital curriculum with an optional Small Business Management Certificate to prepare for entry-level job placements like Grant Thornton, Baker Tilly, Randstad, and Liberty Tax with ACAT certification. Chaired by Dr. David Ekker, the 65-credit Associate of Applied Science in Industrial Technology uniquely prepares for ASQ certification online in five emphases: Industrial Maintenance, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Supervision, Occupational Safety, and Quality Assurance. The Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice follows a 61-credit, Web-based track to the Police Academy with 60-hour, ride-along internships, such as the Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office or Virginia State Parks.

About Tidewater Community College

Tidewater Community College originated in 1968 when Frederick W. Beazley donated the former Frederick College campus to the Virginia Community College System. In 1973, Governor Mills Goodwin Jr. presided over the opening ceremony for an inaugural class of 55. The next year, a 91-acre Chesapeake campus was built.

In 1984, Tidewater notably launched the Commonwealth’s first robotics lab for engineering. The General Assembly funded a Norfolk Campus project in Fall 1996 for revitalizing Forbes’ 81st best city. By 2002, Tidewater Community College even included a $40 million Advanced Technology Center.

In 2013, Tidewater partnered with Lumen Learning to fund Virginia’s first textbook-free options called Z-Degrees online. The National Security Agency chose TCC in 2016 as a Center of Academic Excellence. That Fall, Community College Week ranked TCC 30th nationally for most associate degrees conferred.

Worth $41.4 million, Tidewater Community College now enrolls 34,000 Storm online, on-site, and at Old Dominion University’s Tri-Cities Center. On WalletHub, TCC landed 377th for career outcomes and 594th for educational value.

Tidewater Community College Accreditation Details

On August 10, 2017, Tidewater Community College announced that the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) Board of Trustees voted to reaffirm the Level I accreditation through 2027 under its sixth president, Dr. Gregory T. DeCinque, who received the Chautauqua Leadership Network Leader of the Year Award. Based 561 miles southwest via Interstate 85 in Decatur, this esteemed 11-state Lower Atlantic Region accreditor is recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) to evaluate all TCC’s 68 associate degrees at 11 locations and online. Tidewater’s 2018/19 Catalog also lists the following programmatic accreditations:

Tidewater Community College Application Requirements

Logging into Tidewater Community College is classified “least selective” by the U.S. News & World Report since 100 percent of the 7,603 Fall 2013 applicants were admitted. Open enrollment still requires first-year TCC Storm to finish high school or the GED though. Online students age 18 or older could qualify with the Virginia Applied Studies Diploma too. Placement tests are exempt for secondary GPAs of 2.70 or higher. If taken, SAT scores should rise above 480 for Reading and 530 for Math. Accuplacer waivers are available for 18 ACT English and 22 ACT Math marks or better. Compass scores must be above 62 Reading, 32 Writing, and 25 Math. Incoming transfers need a college-level English or Math course graded at least “C.” Twenty-five percent or more of Tidewater’s curriculum must be remaining. Transfer articulation agreements exist with VCCS schools, such as Germanna, Danville, Blue Ridge, and Rappahannock. International students filing I-20 forms must submit a 6.0 IELTS, 61 TOEFL iBT, or ESL Level 112 grade.

Tidewater Community College conveniently has rolling open enrollment for most students. Non-U.S. residents must apply by June 1st for Fall, October 15th for Spring, and March 1st for Summer. Accordingly, use Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox to complete the free TCC Application online and get a seven-digit ID number. Official transcripts can be mailed to the Green District Administration Building at 121 College Place in Norfolk, VA 23510. For testing results, select school code 5787. Other documents might include the I-20 form, transfer evaluation, vaccine record, experiential learning credit request, and recommendation letter. Tuition and Financial Aid

For 2018-19, Tidewater Community College charged Virginia residents $156 per credit. Military contract out-of-state tuition was also $156 per credit. Non-resident associate tuition was $332 per credit. Full-time undergrads added a $109 institutional fee, $38 activity fee, and $292 auxiliary capital fee each term. Annual in-state tuition and fees equals $5,561. Online associate majors pay $11,489 by year. TCC budgets $1,500 for textbooks plus $3,930 for personal supplies. Off-campus living cost estimates are currently $10,098 yearly. Total attendance figures range from $21,089 to $27,017.

According to the NCES College Navigator, the Office of Student Services in the Bayside Building gets 53 percent of TCC Storm enrolled with median aid of $3,209 for $40.37 million combined. The Women’s Center STEM Promise Program gifts full tuition over two years for outstanding female and minority students holding minimum 3.5 GPAs. Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, or Virginia Beach students with 3.0 GPAs apply for the Outstanding High School Graduate Scholarship until February 24th. The VCCS System offers funds like the Potomac Health Foundation Scholarship, Gerald Baliles Commonwealth Legacy Scholarship, Jonathan Alje Toxopeus Scholarship, John Casteen Scholarship, and Danny Hunley Godwin Society Scholarship. Filing FAFSA forms coded 003712 by April 1st unlocks Federal Pell Grant, SEOG Grant, and Ford Direct Loan opportunities. Virginians taking 12+ credits could receive up to $9,000 from the Commonwealth Award. Similar state aid includes the Guaranteed Assistance Program, Virginia War Orphans Education Benefits, and Gear Up Virginia Scholarship.
