About Moraine Park Technical College

Moraine Park Technical College is a technical college often called MPTC. It belongs to the Wisconsin Technical College System and offers opportunities for students to study online and on several campuses across the Badger State. Established in 1912, MPTC is one of the largest college systems in Wisconsin and has an enrollment of more than 18,000 students. Green Lake County and Fond du Lac County are both parts of the college’s school district as are parts of eight other counties, including Washington and Dodge. Students have the choice of taking classes on several high school campuses that offer evening classes and signing up for daytime classes on the main campus. The regional campuses in Ripon and Jackson both offer daytime and evening courses for local students too.

Moraine Park Technical College Accreditation Details

MPTC is one of the community colleges accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). As HLC is a form of regional accreditation, all of the college’s students can access the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if they think that they need financial aid. This accreditation also allows MPTC students to transfer their credits to a bachelor’s degree program at a college or university that has regional accreditation. The medical assistant, nursing, substance abuse counseling and automotive technology programs are some of the tracks offered by the college that have program accreditation.

Moraine Park Technical College Application Requirements

All MPTC future students will follow the same application process. They need to use the college’s website to pick a major first because that will show them how they can take classes and if the program has any prerequisites. Some programs ask that students take math classes such as Algebra first or that they have strong communications and/or writing skills. They will then apply online, which requires creating an account on the MPTC website and paying a $30 fee. It typically takes only 30 minutes to apply, and some students can apply even faster.

Though the college asks for a transcript, it will accept both high school and college transcripts. Students who have a college transcript or a high school grade point average of 3.25 can immediately enter any of the college’s programs. Those who do not meet one of these requirements will need to take the placement test. MPTC also waives this test if a student submits an official ACT score. Certain programs, including a few in nursing and education, require that students submit to a criminal background check and pass that check. If students need to complete this requirement or any others, MPTC will contact them after receiving their applications.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Wisconsin residents qualify for the MPTC in-state tuition rate of $4,102 per year. This lets them take 30 credits over nine months or two semesters but does not include the $338 in fees that they need to pay every year. Students who do not qualify for the resident rate pay the non-resident rate of $204.75 per credit hour as well as the same amount of fees. Students may need to pay technology and other fees in some of their classes or be responsible for paying for the kits and other supplies that they need. Online students pay an extra $45 fee for each course that they take online too.

Students who make a down payment and pay a $35 fee can sign up for a plan that divides their total costs over each semester. The college also allows students to self-pay online through their accounts or to use a tuition reimbursement plan. Those who complete the FAFSA can get financial aid too that the college will apply to their accounts and balances within the first few months of the semester. Some of the financial aid that goes to students in the online associate’s degree programs at Moraine Park Technical College include grants, scholarships, loans, and work-study.
