Lincoln Christian University’s Online Associates Degree

Lincoln Christian University offers four different associate degrees with only one offered online:

  • Associate of Arts in Bible (Offered Online)
  • Associate of Arts in Education
  • Associate of Science in Pre-Nursing
  • Associate of Science in Science

Each degree is centered around Christ as Lincoln Christian University is a Christian University. Specifically, the Associate of Arts in Bible offers a rapid, two-year entry into vocational ministry that is their only associate degree that is offered entirely online.

The Associate of Arts in Bible focuses on understanding the Old and New Testaments while knowing the most significant historical and current interpretation of the Bible by the Church. Additionally, the program aims to describe the historical context of the Christian church to Western society.

The course requirements for the Associate of Arts in Bible begin with the general education requirements:

  • Communication: seven credits through Writing Studies 1 and 2 and Introduction to Speech.
  • Math: three credits through Math for Life or Statistics.
  • Science: seven credits through Human Biology, Biology & Society, Chemistry & Society, and Physical Science.
  • Humanities/Fine Arts: nine credits through Introduction to the Bible, Ancient Civilizations, and From the Early Church to the Renaissance.
  • Social/Behavioral Science: nine credits through The Emerging Modern World, The Modern and Postmodern World, and Principles of Psychology or Introduction to Sociology.

Additional courses to satisfy the Bible and Theology Requirements of 24 credits are also required. These courses are Interpreting the Christian Scriptures, History of American Christianity and the Stone-Campbell Movement, An Introduction to Worldviews, New Testament I, New Testament II, Old Testament I, Old Testament II, and Basic Christian Beliefs. Other requirements needed for Lincoln Christian University is a class title Developing a Christ-centered Life which is focused on chapel attendance for traditional (resident) students and Service Learning.

About Lincoln Christian University

Founded by a preaching minister of Lincoln Christian Church as Lincoln Bible Institute in 1944, Earl C. Hargrove steadily grew the school. In 1952, the graduate school was added and became Lincoln Christian College and Seminary shortly after. A Doctor of Ministry degree was added in 2007 and online degrees were added in 2009.

Centrally founded around the Christian faith, the Lincoln Christian University is on a sprawling 130-acre campus and has two locations: one in Lincoln, IL, and one in approximately 35 miles north in Bloomington-Normal, IL. With an average class size of 13 students, U.S. News & World Report lists Lincoln Christian University with a student to faculty ratio of 13:1 and over 69 percent of the classes have fewer than 20 students. With an undergraduate enrollment of just over 400 students, Lincoln Christian University can have a personalized feel.

Lincoln Christian University Accreditation Details

Lincoln Christian University is accredited by two organizations for their undergraduate courses:

  • Higher Learning Commission – one of six regional institutional accreditors in the United States serving 19 states.
  • Association of Biblical Higher Education – a member network of more than 200 biblical based higher education institutes in the United States and Canada.

In addition to the above accreditations, Lincoln Christian University is:

  • Approved for the education of veterans by the Illinois State Approving Agency, Department of Veterans Affairs.
  • Authorized to enroll non-immigrant alien students.
  • Participates in the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements which is a voluntary state oversight of post-secondary distance education

Lincoln Christian University Application Requirements

Admissions into Lincoln Christian University is considered “Easy” by Peterson’s and has an admission rate of 62 percent. The application process cannot be completed more than 12 months before enrollment. For traditional students, the application requires the following:

  • A completed application.
  • A personal essay.
  • Offical transcripts of all credits earned in high school. Note: if greater than 24 semester credit hours have been obtained at a different institute, this may be waived.
  • Official transcripts of all credits from any other college or university.
  • Official standardized test scores.
  • Non-family member based reference or recommendation.
  • If English is not the students first language, official scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).

In addition to the required application materials, home school students must also provide documentation of a level of education comparable to high school or a college preparatory curriculum. International students must also submit their required transcripts in their original language with an official translation to English.

An Associate of Arts in Bible taken as an online degree is considered a non-traditional method. As such, the above traditional requirements must be met in addition to meeting one of the three following criteria: the student is a minimum of 23 years of age, the student is married, or the student is place-bound.

Tuition and Financial Aid

According to U.S. News & World Report, the tuition and fees for the 2019-2020 academic year was $13,590 and the room and board was $7,564 at Lincoln Christian University. The tuition per credit hour is $453.00, according to the Lincoln Christian University catalog. Some classes, such as CM 098, CM099, US098, independent study, and music lessons have non-standard rates associated with them.

Financial Aid is often considered through filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. The Pell Grant, which is an need-based program is a federal grant and does not have to be paid back. In addition to the Federal Pell Grant, the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant is also available. The Illinois Monetary Award Program is an available as a need-based grant for Illinois residents. In addition to grants, loans can also be obtained to pay for a students education. There are federal loans and private loans from banks and loan companies.
