Judson College offers four schools, each offering a unique degree focus. The four schools are Humanities & Fine Arts, Professional Studies, Sciences, and Social Sciences. There are 14 undergraduate degrees available, covering different concentrations across the four schools. All of the online degrees available are at the bachelor level.
Although the school does not offer graduate degrees, the programs provide a strong foundation for students who will go on to take a graduate-level program. Online degrees that students can take advantage of are a Bachelor of Arts or Science in Business Administration, a Bachelor of Arts or Science in Criminal Justice, Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education, Bachelor of Arts in Secondary English/Language Arts, Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Secondary General Social Studies, Bachelor of Arts or Sciences in Interdisciplinary Studies, Bachelor of Arts in Music, and Bachelor of Arts or Science in Psychology. There is also an Associate in Nursing Degree available on-campus.
The business administration and psychology degrees are among some of the most popular with students. This college has been historically known for its educational programs.
Business administration degrees include internship and independent study opportunities. Education degrees incorporate field experience with students in the targeted age groups. Psychology degrees offer independent study opportunities suitable for studying special topics of interest to students.
About Judson College
Judson College dates back to 1838 when it was started as a Christian women’s college. The original goal was to provide young women with the same quality of education that men at the time received. The distance education offerings are open to both genders.
This Alabama Baptist Convention-affiliated school has received several important recognitions. G.I. Jobs recognized the college as a Military-Friendly School in 2017, and Judson is known for its Yellow Ribbon Program support that benefits veterans.
The Carnegie Foundation awarded the university Community Engagement Classification in 2015 for its teaching programs. This particular recognition has only been given to four schools in Alabama, and Judson is the only private university to have received the classification.
Institutional Research and Evaluation, Inc. named the school as one of America’s Best Christian Colleges, based on student satisfaction rates and overall program quality. U.S. News & World Report ranked the institution in #164-#215 of National Liberal Arts Colleges, making this college a great choice for students pursuing Liberal Arts-based programs.
Judson College Accreditation Details
Judson College has accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. This agency is responsible for ensuring that all programs meet or exceed academic standards. The Music program enjoys National Association of Schools of Music accreditation.
This university also has memberships with several industry-specific organizations. Some of these include the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences, the Alabama Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, and the Business Council of Alabama. As a church-affiliated college, the school also has memberships with the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities and the International Association of Baptist Colleges and Universities.
Judson College Application Requirements
All on-campus students, except for those enrolling in Nursing programs, use one online application. After submitting the application, students will need to provide their high school or prior college transcripts. Official ACT or SAT scores are required. A TOEFL score will be required from international students.
Associate Degree in Nursing applicants will need to fulfill the following requirements:
- Both a completed Judson College application and an application to the Associate in Nursing Program
- A “proficient” or better TEAS score, an ACT score of 19 or better, or a minimum score on a Nursing Admission and Progression Committee-approved exam
- A cumulative GPA of 2.5
- Background check
- Drug screen prior to any clinical work
Students who have taken Nursing courses in the last five years with at least a “C” grade may transfer credits. Transfer students must also meet the minimum admission standards, have a letter of good standing from the director or dean of their program, and have 90% or better dosage calculation exam scores for consideration.
Online students may submit either an online or paper application. You will also need to submit a copy of your government-issued ID, high school or college transcripts demonstrating a 2.0 GPA, or a passing GED score for non-high school graduates.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Full-time costs for on-campus students average $8,620, with a $585 per credit hour cost for part-time students. Distance students pay $495 per credit hour. Nursing students pay $743 per credit hour for Nursing-related courses and $585 per credit hour for all other classes. Room & Board fees vary depending on the semester and whether there is single or double occupancy.
Additional fees include technology fees that apply to all students, as well as fees specific to individual programs like Nursing and Music. These fees are usually paid each semester. Additional one-time fees may also apply, such as graduation fees.
A majority of students qualify for some form of financial aid, and there are several options available. Federal Pell Grants provide many students with assistance that never requires repayment. A Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant may also be an option for students with exceptional financial need.
The Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education Grant Program provides assistance in exchange for the graduate taking a four-year teaching position. Federal Work-Study Programs provide students with part-time employment. There are also Judson College programs that students may wish to consider.
There are also loan programs that include Federal Perkins Loans and Federal Direct Student Loans. These are government-secured loans that are not dependent on a student’s credit rating. Federal Parent’s Loan for Undergraduate Students are loans that parents of a dependent student can take out.
