For example, the A.A.S. in Computer Programming follows a 67-credit, two-year online path to C++ Certified Professional Programmer status with 15-week courses like Microsoft Essentials and Introduction to JavaScript. Online on Moodle since Fall 2012, the A.A.B. in Entrepreneurship has delivered a 63-credit, startup-oriented track to leadership with 200-level courses from Principles of Accounting to Business Communications plus Center for Innovation and Development projects for 85 percent job placement. About Gogebic Community College

Gogebic Community College originated in September 1932 when the Ironwood Public Schools started a two-year junior college at L.L. Wright High School for an inaugural class of 188. In 1938, it became Gogebic Junior College after support from the county’s Board of Supervisors. After the Michigan Legislature passed Act 55 in 1953, the Gogebic Community College name was adopted. On May 10, 1965, Gogebic became an independent institution with its own Board of Trustees. In 1966, Gogebic County citizens voted to provide land near Mt. Zion for a permanent GCC campus. In 1969, Gogebic Community College opened its Rutger Erickson Liberal Arts Center. One year later, GCC founded one of the few ski management programs at David Anderson Chalet. In 1973, the Carl Kleimola Technical Center was erected for STEM education. In 1991, innovative new computer labs were added to the Jacob Solin Center for Business. By the early 2000s, President Donald Foster had begun online learning efforts.

Budgeting $12.03 million, Gogebic Community College now employs 36 full-time and 56 part-time faculty teaching 1,042 Samsons from five countries online, on its rural 150-acre Ironwood campus, or at the Copper Country Center in Houghton with 20+ clubs like the Native American Student Association. In 2019, GCC was crowned an Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence finalist. In 2017, Gogebic received a Phi Theta Kappa Distinguished Chapter Award. Gogebic Community College Accreditation Details

On June 29, 2017, the Higher Learning Commission on North Central Association (HLC-NCA) Board of Trustees voted favorably to continue the Level I accreditation of Gogebic Community College through the next 2022-23 evaluation visit under President George McNulty, Ph.D. Located 405 miles south via Interstate 39 in Chicago, this giant 19-state Great Lakes Region accreditor is recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and Michigan Department of Education (MDE). The Office of Academic Assessment also lists the following accreditations:

Gogebic Community College Application Requirements

Getting into Gogebic Community College is classified “least selective” by the U.S. News & World Report because 100 percent of the 425 Fall 2017 entrants were openly enrolled. First-year Samsons still must attain a secondary diploma or the GED equivalent though. Only the Early College allows high school juniors and seniors to register for non-degree courses. The Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standards require a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0. Undergrads must complete at least 67 percent of their attempted credits in good standing. The maximum time frame for associate degree completion is 95-115 credits. Freshmen typically need Accuplacer placement scores at Math 100 and English 100 or higher. Providing SAT/ACT scores would qualify for the Accuplacer waiver. Gogebic Community College transfers must have at least 16 credits remaining toward their associate degree. Transferred credits must be regionally accredited and graded C or better. Non-U.S. residents might also need a minimum 78 TOEFL iBT score.

Gogebic Community College has a convenient rolling admission policy. Registration begins April 1st for Fall and November 1st for Spring. Current term start dates are August 26th and January 13th. The Summer School has a priority deadline of April 1st. Financial aid forms are typically received from January 1st to March 15th. Tuition and Financial Aid

For 2019-20, Gogebic Community College is billing in-district residents $124 per credit. Other Michigan residents pay $175 per credit. The Wisconsin Reciprocity Area rate is $175 per credit. Non-resident associate tuition is $204 per credit. International students are charged $260 per credit. Mandatory undergraduate fees total $1,228 per year. GCC budgets $1,000 annually for books and supplies. Full-time annual attendance costs $6,072 in-district, $7,653 in-state, $8,552 out-of-state, and $10,288 internationally. Living at the Ironwood Campus Suites would add $3,800 for yearly rent. Gogebic expects residents will spend $2,700 for dining and $1,700 for transportation extra. Fortunately, online Samsons forgo these expenses to pay only $6,072 to $10,228 each year.

According to the NCES College Navigator, the Financial Aid Office at David Lindquist Student Center connects 82 percent of new full-time GCC Samsons to tuition assistance averaging $5,118 each for $706,352 combined. Institutional funds include the Bloshenko Family Scholarship, Brian Nasi Memorial Scholarship, Kandy Richardson Memorial Scholarship, David Mussatti Jr. Memorial Scholarship, Florence & David McDonald Scholarship, Hinch Memorial Scholarship, James Norman Memorial Scholarship, Lindberg Family Scholarship, Portage Health Foundation Scholarship, Reginald Williams Memorial Scholarship, Teresa Ann Santini Memorial Scholarship, Zera Tabacchi Scholarship, and Denise Gertz-Cohen Scholarship. The $1,000 Gustave Swanson Endowed Scholarship has a March 13th deadline for Gogebic County residents pursuing vocational certificates. The Clarence Forslund Memorial Scholarship gifts $300 to sophomore Associate of Applied Business majors with GPAs above 3.5. Federal resources, such as the Pell Grant or Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant, require FAFSA applications coded 002264. Michiganders could also apply for the Tuition Incentive Program, Fostering Futures Scholarship, Competitive Scholarship, Education & Training Voucher, Children of Veterans Tuition Grant, Indian Tuition Waiver, and more.
