About Fox Valley Technical College

Fox Valley Technical College is a public college that serves as both a technical school and community college. Also known as Fox Valley Tech and FVTC, its roots date back to the city vocational schools that opened in the 1910s. Those schools would become the Fox Valley Technical Institute in 1967 after the state created individual school districts. The first campus in that system opened that same year in Appleton followed by a second campus in Wautoma. Four other campuses opened in the later years as well as a Public Safety Training Center that offers courses in fire, police and emergency management. The system is also home to one of the only flight training schools in the state. Fox Valley Tech now offers more than 200 educational programs across all campuses that allow students to earn associate’s degrees, technical certificates, and diplomas.

Fox Valley Technical College Accreditation Details

Fox Valley Tech encourages students to seek financial aid and use as many programs as they can. Those students can get a financial aid package from the college once they submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The accreditation that FVTC has from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) lets students use that form. Fox Valley Tech holds accreditation from other groups too, including the American Dental Association (ADA), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and American Culinary Federation (ACF).

Fox Valley Technical College Application Requirements

Enrollment Services at FVTC have counselors who can help students with both the application and their enrollment as well as with financial aid. The specialists working for the college can answer questions that students have about online programs and specific degrees, schedule a time for their placement tests and sign them up for a campus tour. It takes around five minutes to apply online. The application requires a social security number and asks students to upload their transcripts. If they do not have copies of their transcripts, they can ask their last schools to send their transcripts to the college.

Certain programs at the college have additional admissions requirements such as asking that students pass a criminal background check or that they take prerequisite classes. They may need to interview for a spot in some programs too. A skills assessment is available for students who do not have a standardized test score. This assessment is available on-campus and both places students in college classes and ensures that they can handle the work. Before taking classes, new students must attend a registration session too.

Tuition and Financial Aid

FVTC has a payment schedule that students can follow each term. This schedule usually requires that they pay their balances at least one week before the semester starts. The winter term has an early due date because of the holiday season. Wisconsin residents pay $154.65 per credit hour, and non-residents pay $222.90 per credit hour. Online students qualify for a rate of $164.65 per no matter where they live as they take classes. Students who qualify for military assistance pay $153.30 per credit hour for their online classes and a slightly higher price for traditional courses.

Though students can save money with online classes, the college also offers financial aid for those who qualify for and use the FAFSA. It takes only minutes to fill out the form but requires that student’s tax records or the previous tax returns of their parents. They can get federal subsidized loans and qualify for a Pell grant or an opportunity grant through the FAFSA. This is also what helps students get one of the jobs on the Fox Valley Tech campus. If they have a surplus from their financial aid, the college will cut them a check within the first few weeks of the semester. Students can learn more about financial aid through a meeting with a counselor working for Fox Valley Technical College before applying to an online associate’s degree program.
