Online Associate’s Degree Programs Available from Forsyth Technical Community College

Forsyth Technical Community College offers 11 associate’s degree programs and several certificate programs. The Associate of Arts (AA) is a general program designed for transfer students. Most of those who complete an AA degree will then transfer to a four-year university in North Carolina. Not only does it allow students to complete some of the general education requirements of those schools, but it lets them study different subjects to decide on their majors before they transfer.
Associate of Applied Science (AAS) programs are available in different fields that include business administration. The general track includes a daytime option for traditional students and a track that features online and evening classes. It features Introduction to Business, Business Law, Introduction to Computers, Principles of Financial Accounting, Business Ethics, and Professional Management. The college allows students to pick from six different tracks based on their career goals, including public administration, global entrepreneurship, and customer service. Most of those tracks are also available as separate certificate programs too.
In the emergency management program, students develop both problem-solving and communication skills that they can use when working for government departments. It features courses such as Sociology of Disaster, Emergency Management, Incident Management, OSHA Standards, Emergency Operations Center Management, and Organization and Administration. It also includes a course called Law Enforcement Operations that prepares students who want to work for a police department and attend a police academy. Other courses are designed for students planning to work for fire departments.
A similar AAS program is available in criminal justice technology. Students learn about corrections procedures and the agencies that are part of the criminal justice field. They can work on their degrees as they take classes online or through daytime and evening classes. Once they take Introduction to Criminal Justice, they can take Investigative Principles and other advanced courses. Students can earn a certificate in criminal justice online too. Both programs include courses such as General Psychology, Criminal Law, Constitutional Law, Law Enforcement Operations and Ethics and Communications Relations. Online students will do a criminal justice practicum too.
Through the healthcare management technology AAS program, students can now learn the basics of working for a healthcare organization and managing the resources of that organization. It includes Medical Office Terminology, Medial and Legal Issues, Principles of Managerial Accounting, Long-Term Care Administration, Human Resource Management and Medical Insurance. Online students can take some of their classes on the Forsyth Technical Community College campus at night, during the day and on weekends. Some of the other majors available for online AAS students include project management technology, financial services, entrepreneurship, and logistics management.
About Forsyth Technical Community College
Forsyth Technical Community College is a community college that caters to students living in and around Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Founded in 1960 as the Winston-Salem and Forsyth County Industrial Education Center, it became the Forsyth Technical Institute four years later. It briefly operated as the Forsyth Technical College in the 1980s before becoming Forsyth Technical Community College. The college uses the names FTCC and Forsyth Technical today. A branch of the college called the Early College of Forsyth accepts local high school students and allows them to finish an associate’s degree by the time they graduate. More than 11,000 students earn credit from FTCC every year.
Forsyth Technical Community College Accreditation Details
Forsyth Tech has regional accreditation, which is why it can accept credits from students who attended college before. This accreditation comes from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and is also why students can submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) when they need financial aid. FTCC also has accreditation for some of its programs from organizations such as the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and the National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation.
Forsyth Technical Community College Application Requirements
Students applying to FTCC must complete a residency form, which gives them a number they will use on the application. This number shows that they are a resident of North Carolina and allows them to pay the in-state tuition rate. They will also complete the online application. The college will then contact students and let them know if they need to submit anything else. Most students need to provide an official transcript that shows they took the courses designated by the North Carolina Board of Education for college students. There are similar requirements for those who have a GED and those who were homeschooled.
Those who apply to an allied health or nursing program need to attend an orientation session to make sure that they know the requirements of the program. The college asks students to download and submit a copy of a work experience form. FTCC also asks that students take a placement test on-campus and wait for their scores to come back before they register for classes. Students can skip this exam if they submit a standardized test score.
Tuition and Financial Aid
At Forsyth Tech, North Carolina residents pay $76 per credit hour. Full-time residents will pay at least $912 per semester and more when they take above 12 credits of classes. All nonresidents pay $268 per credit hour, which brings their total cost of attendance up to $3,216 per semester or more. Students taking 16 or more credits in a semester will pay a flat rate of $1,216 each semester as a resident and $4,288 each semester as a nonresident. They’ll also pay fees of at least $65 a semester.
FTCC recommends that students submit the FAFSA as soon as possible after it becomes available in October. Students who receive financial aid can buy supplies from the bookstore and charge it to their accounts. The college will use their aid to cover those costs later. They can get federal loans and a Pell grant each year. The Finish Line grant is a special grant that goes to local residents and gives them $1,000 to finish their degrees. Students can use work-study and scholarships too. Forsyth Technical Community College offers the same financial aid programs for students in its online associate’s degree programs as it does for its traditional students.
