Foothill College was founded on January 15, 1957, by the Palo Alto Unified School District’s superintendent Henry M. Gunn with approval by the California Department of Education. Foothill College Accreditation Details
On January 26, 2018, Foothill College passed an extensive institution evaluation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) to renew Level I accreditation through 2024 under its seventh president, Dr. Thuy Thi Nguyen, who earned the Minority Bar Coalition’s Unity Award. Headquartered 66 miles north via Route 101 in Novato, this nonprofit nine-territory Pacific accreditor is authorized by the U.S. Education Department to ensure the academic effectiveness of Foothill’s 79 associate degrees, one bachelor’s program, and 107 certificates. Foothill College Application Requirements
Enrolling at Foothill College is classified as “non-competitive” by Peterson’s because 100 percent of the 5,697 Fall 2017 applicants were successful. First-year Owls seeking online associate degrees simply need a diploma or GED certificate. Freshmen aged 17 or older who’ve scored at least 45 on the HSET also qualify. Undocumented immigrants get the AB540 Nonresident Tuition Exemption if they’ve spent 3+ years at California high schools. Ten quarter units are transferrable for Advanced Placement tests of “3” or higher. Nine units could be carried for CLEP marks above 500. The Honors Institute only considers Foothill undergrads with minimum secondary GPAs of 3.5. Finishing the ENGL 1A course with a “B” or better is also mandated for Honors. Online AA Transfer programs necessitate the completion of 90 quarter units with cumulative GPAs above 2.0. Foreign learners prove English competency with a 61 TOEFL iBT, Level 4 ITEP, 50 Duolingo, 175 Cambridge, or 1100 GTEC score.
Foothill College has rolling associate admission until July 16th for Fall, November 27th for Winter, February 28th for Spring, and May 21st for Summer starts. Please note overseas applicants can only apply thrice annually by June 30th, October 31st, and January 31st deadlines. Generally free, the online application brings a $75 non-refundable fee exclusively for international students. Tuition and Financial Aid
For 2018-19, Foothill College is charging basic enrollment fees of $31 in-state and $163 out-of-state per unit. Mandatory expenses, including the $10 student body fee and $17 health services fee, are extra. Online students receive a waiver for the $20 Campus Center fee. Full-time California residents pay $1,515 per year. Non-resident tuition adds $7,335 annually. Studying online forgoes the $5,418 room and board charge. The $1,251 transportation estimate becomes null and void. Online associate majors still budget $1,917 for textbooks and supplies though. Yearly undergrad attendance equals roughly $4,683 in-state and $12,018 out-of-state. Note that international students pay $194 per unit plus $506 each quarter for insurance though.
According to the NCES College Navigator, the Financial Aid Office in Building 8100 gifts $9.07 million combined for 37 percent of new full-time Foothill Owls to hoot about assistance averaging $2,222. Institutional funds include the Ann Davis Memorial Scholarship, Judson Allen Scholarship, Bernadine Chuck Fong Scholarship, Chancellor’s Scholar Award, Doratha Moore Scholarship, Shirley Ledterman Scholarship, Mary Reynen Scholarship, Environmental Scholarship, Galina Family Scholarship, Georgette Hagan Scholarship, and Ling Bundagaard Scholarship. Since Fall 2015, the Full-Time Student Success Grant has presented $333 per quarter of 12+ units. Another California Student Aid Commission option is the Chafee Grant, which disburses $5,000 to aging out foster children. Dream Act applications consider AB540 immigrants for the California College Promise Grant. Federal Pell and FSEOG Grants are unlocked with FAFSA forms coded 001199. Repayment is only required for Federal Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized loans worth up to $6,000.
