Online Associate Degree Programs at Cossatot Community College

Students who want to earn an associate’s degree have multiple choices when they enroll in Cossatot Community College. They can earn Associate of Arts (AA), Associate of Science (AS) and Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degrees as well as an Associate of General Studies (AGS) degree. The AGS degree includes general education courses and introductory courses for students who know that they will transfer to a four-year university. All of the associate programs are available for online students.
The college designed some programs for students who want to transfer to specific schools such as its AS in Psychology program. Majors can transfer after two years to either Arkansas Tech University or Southern Arkansas University. It features general education courses and 26 credits that make up the psychology core. Those classes include Microcomputer Applications, Abnormal Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Introduction to Sociology and Personal and Community Health. The college’s AS in Criminal Justice also prepares students to transfer to those same schools but includes courses such as Introduction to Criminal Justice, Criminal Law and State and Local Government.
Also available for online students are AAS degrees in business. The general business program helps students transfer to any branch of the University of Arkansas. They take courses that include Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Business Law and Accounting Principles I and II. Students can earn an AAS in Business Management, Accounting or Administrative Assistant. Each of these programs includes technical courses that teach students about computer applications and software.
Those in the administrative assistant program can earn two certificates, but those certificates will require that they spend more time in the program. The technical certificate requires an additional 27 credits. It includes courses such as Administrative Office Procedures, Human Relations and Supervision, Business Math, and Desktop Publishing and Web Design. Students can get a certificate of proficiency if they take three courses on top of their required classes. They’ll take Success Strategies, Microcomputer Applications, and Desktop Publishing and Web Design.
About Cossatot Community College
Arkansas is home to many community colleges that offer opportunities for recent high school graduates and other types of learners. One of the top schools in the southwest region of the state is Cossatot Community College. Founded in 1975 as Cossatot Vocational Technical School, it offered vocational programs that help students go right to work. Many of these programs prepared them for working as automotive techs and repair techs. The college would become Cossatot Technical College in 1991 and Cossatot Community College in 2001. This name change coincided with the college becoming part of the University of Arkansas system. Its official name is the Cossatot Community College of the University of Arkansas because it allows students to transfer to that university.
Often called CCC, it now offers both technical and vocational training programs and programs designed for those who want to complete a bachelor’s degree. De Queen, Arkansas is home to the main CCC campus, but there are also campuses in Ashdown and Nashville. Each one offers the same programs and facilities that provide students with simulations and special resources that they can use. CCC also offers a number of online programs for its more than 1,600 students.
Cossatot Community College Accreditation Details
CCC has accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). Not only does this let students transfer to a four-year degree program offered by another school in Arkansas, but they can also transfer to colleges outside of the state. Some of the college’s degree programs have accreditation from organizations that include the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) and the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE). It also has the authorization to operate in the state and is a member of multiple national educational associations.
Cossatot Community College Application Requirements
To apply to CCC, students need an internet connection to access the application packet. This packet is just one page in length and asks for a home address, phone number, social security number, date of birth and email address. Students can either submit this form online or print a copy and mail it to the college. They will get an email that tells them when the college received the application. There are also sections that ask students about where they went to high school and the highest level of education completed. Some of the questions on the application will help the college determine what type of financial aid to give the student.
After submitting the application, students must mail in either an official GED or a high school transcript. The transcript should show the date the student graduated and finished high school and the cumulative grade point average he or she had. Students will also provide a photo ID and proof of their immunization records. Those taking online classes do not need to submit their medical records. Certain programs, including the college’s nursing and cosmetology programs, have other admissions requirements. CCC requires that students provide all their documents by May 1 if they want to start in the fall and also need financial aid.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Students who live within the CCC school district qualify for an in-district rate of $72 per credit hour. Those who live in Arkansas but outside of the district pay $85 per credit hour, and those who live outside of Arkansas pay $100 per credit hour. Students pay the same rates to take online classes unless they live outside of Arkansas. Those students pay $90 per credit hour instead. The college also charges lab fees for students taking courses with a lab requirement and fees for courses that require interactive videos.
Those who submit their applications, required documents, and the FAFSA by the beginning of May can get financial aid from the college. Any student who can demonstrate financial need may qualify for a federal grant. Those grants give them money that they can put towards their expenses. The federal work-study program allows students to work in different positions for the college and make money to cover their educational and other costs. Once students receive their award letters, they can sign them and return the papers back to the college. Cossatot Community College will only disperse financial aid to students in online associate degree programs who return this form.
