About Bryn Athyn College of the New Church

Bryn Athyn College of the New Church is a private college in Pennsylvania that uses the name Bryn Athyn College. It got its name from the Bryn Athyn neighborhood, which is an affluent suburb located near Philadelphia. The college opened in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as the Academy of the New Church because of its affiliation with that religious organization. It offered training for ministers and emphasized the needs of the New Church. Students took classes on those teachings and learned how to work with parishioners in the Church. Known as a seminary, the academy later added high school classes. When it received a donation from a local man, the college added two-year programs. The success of that curriculum led to the addition of four-year programs and helped the academy become a college in 1922 called the Academy of the New Church. It finally became Bryn Athyn College in 1997.

Charles Eliot was a landscape architect who worked with the Olmsted Brothers and helped design the landscape of the college in the late 19th century. Some of his original work is still visible today. The campus is also home to many historic landmarks, which helped make it a tourist attraction. Bryn Athyn College is one of the smallest colleges in Pennsylvania with an enrollment of around 330 students.
